Chronic Pain Coaching

Unlock your power to truly heal

All pain is real. However, chronic pain isn’t just about what’s happening in your body—it’s deeply connected to your brain and nervous system. When pain becomes chronic, it’s often because the brain and nervous system have become overly sensitive, interpreting normal sensations as painful even when no injury or damage is present. This pain is called Neuroplastic Pain (also known as MindBody pain, Tension Myoneural Syndrome {TMS,} or psychophysiologic disorder {PPD.}) This can feel confusing and frustrating, but it also means that healing is possible.

By understanding the brain-body connection, we can work together to retrain your brain, calm your nervous system, and reduce pain. Through evidence-based techniques like Pain Reprocessing Therapy, nervous system regulation, and emotional awareness practices, I’ll guide you in breaking the cycle of chronic pain and help you find lasting relief. You don’t have to stay stuck—your body and brain are capable of healing. And I am here to guide you each step of the way.

How Do I Know if My Pain is “Neuroplastic?”

The more statements you can answer “yes” to from the list below, the more likely it is that your pain is neuroplastic

(Derived from Dr. Howard Schubiner’s FIT Criteria)

    • I have been medically evaluated and there is no evidence of infection, fracture, disease, tumor or concerning health condition

    • I experience constant or intermittent pain/symptoms that have lasted longer than 6 weeks

    •  I have been told I have a muscle, nerve, tendon or disk degenerative problem- also known as a “normal abnormality” (i.e. degenerative disk disease, bulging disk, scoliosis, rotator cuff tear, labral tear, mild arthritis)

    • My pain/symptoms began without a physical precipitation (it came out of nowhere)

    • Different doctors/practitioners have given different diagnoses

    •  I have tried many different therapies (medication, acupuncture, massage therapy, steroid injections, physical therapy, etc.) and I either get short-term relief or no relief at all

    • My pain/symptom originated from an injury but has lasted longer than the normal healing time

    • My pain/symptom is from an old injury that healed a long time ago

    • I have more than one type of pain/symptom (headaches, IBS, back pain, TMJ, etc.)

    • My pain/symptom is in the same area on both sides of my body

    • My pain/symptom severity level or frequency changes (depending on the time of day, week, month)

    • My pain/symptom has spread from one area to other areas of my body (i.e. started in the neck, has spread down shoulder, and down arm)

    • My pain/symptom has shifted from one area of my body to others (i.e. had shoulder pain, then hip pain, then foot pain)

    • My pain/symptom has the quality of tingling, electric, burning, numbness, hot or cold (without evidence of significant nerve damage.)

    • The severity of my pain/symptoms varies depending on what I am doing in my life (i.e. while at home vs. while at work vs. while in the car vs. while on vacation)

    • My pain/symptom occurs in the middle of the night or upon waking

    • My pain/symptom occurs or gets worse when I think about it or when someone asks about it

    • My pain/symptom is worse when I am feeling stressed or anticipating stressful situations

How Do I Know if Chronic Pain Coaching Will Work for Me?

Chronic pain coaching can be an excellent fit for individuals who are ready to explore the deeper, often hidden factors contributing to their pain and are open to doing the inner work necessary for lasting relief.

This approach isn’t a quick fix or passive solution. It requires patience, commitment, and a willingness to challenge long-held beliefs about pain, reflect on emotions, and embrace vulnerability in the healing process.

If you’re seeking solely physical interventions or expecting immediate results without addressing the neuroplastic and emotional roots of pain, this may not be the right fit. However, for those prepared to take an active role in their healing journey, chronic pain coaching can lead to profound and lasting transformation.
